Juan Mata issues rallying cry ahead of Man United v Liverpool
Juan Mata talks up the rivalry between Manchester United and Liverpool ahead of Saturday's clash
Juan Mata has talked up the importance of Manchester United’s rivalry with Liverpool ahead of Saturday’s showdown at Old Trafford.
The Merseyside outfit head to Old Trafford looking to return to winning ways in the Premier League after their surprise 3-0 loss to West Ham United in their most recent outing.
United also suffered a defeat in their most recent game, with the Red Devils slumping to a 2-1 loss to Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium earlier this month.
The Spanish playmaker scored an acrobatic volley as United sealed an impressive 2-1 win at Anfield back in March, and the Spaniard admits that the rivalry between the two clubs is one of the biggest he’s seen in the build-up to Saturday’s crunch clash.
Mata told United’s website: “You cannot know it if you don’t live it from the inside.
“I knew when I came to England that United-Liverpool was one of the biggest games, but when you are inside it and part of it, you realise it is the biggest.
“The history of both clubs, the rivalry… you can feel it from the start of the week before the game, it’s unbelievable.
“When we lost my first game against them it was very disappointing and you could feel it in the atmosphere and among the fans.
“But when we won 3-0 and also won at Anfield, it’s something the people never forget, so it’s always a massive game for us.”
United are currently fifth in the Premier League table and level on points with Liverpool after having taken seven points from their opening four top-flight games.
