Liverpool goalkeeper issues warning to Simon Mignolet
Adam Bogdan is targeting the number one shirt at Liverpool
Adam Bogdan has warned Simon Mignolet that he hasn’t joined Liverpool to act as his understudy.
The Hungary international is expected to start his first competitive Liverpool game against Carlisle United in the third round of the League Cup on Wednesday night.
Bogdan joined the Reds on a free transfer from Bolton Wanderers after Australian Brad Jones left Anfield, providing Mignolet with increased competition for place.
And the 25-year-old shot stopper declared that he is unhappy on the bench ahead of their Capital One Cup fixture.
“If I play [against Carlisle] then it’s a chance to get a game under my belt and show what I can do,” Bogdan told Liverpool Echo.
“I didn’t sign for Liverpool to sit around on the bench or be happy being the number two keeper. Like everyone else, I’m here to compete for a place in the team.”
Bogdan made 121 appearances for Bolton during a seven-year stay at the Reebok Stadium. The Hungarian goalkeeper was named Bolton’s player of the year in 2012.
Current Liverpool number one Mignolet has conceded seven goals in six Premier League games so far this season.
The Reds face Aston Villa in their next top-flight outing at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
