Liverpool striker Danny Ings issues Man United warning
Liverpool striker Danny Ings says the Reds squad is hungry to put things right against Manchester United after West Ham loss
Danny Ings has warned Manchester United that Liverpool are hungry to get back to winning ways ahead of their trip to Old Trafford.
The Merseyside outfit suffered a 3-0 defeat by West Ham United at Anfield in their most Premier League outing, ending their three-game unbeaten start to the new season.
Teams come in fresh and hungry after pre-season and there are sometimes an upset in results. We were part of that unfortunately against West Ham, but we are moving forward and the confidence is still [high] in the camp
Louis van Gaal’s side also tasted defeat in their last Premier League game after Swansea City came from behind to seal a surprise 2-1 win at Liberty Stadium.
And Ings, who moved to Liverpool on a free transfer from Burnley earlier this summer, revealed the Reds are eager to make amends for a disappointing performance against the Hammers.
“I think any game after a loss like that all the lads will be chomping at the bit to play and put things right, and with the quality we’ve got at this club, I’m sure we can do that,” Ings told Liverpool’s website.
“It’s a learning curve. A lot of the other teams at the top end [of the table] lost at the weekend as well but it’s a huge learning curve for us moving forward to make sure we don’t step our foot off the gas.
“At the start of a new season, teams come in fresh and hungry after pre-season and there are sometimes an upset in results. We were part of that unfortunately against West Ham, but we are moving forward and the confidence is still [high] in the camp.
“A few of the lads are away during the internationals now but I’m sure when they come back they will be hungry.”
Liverpool will be without suspended Philippe Coutinho for the trip to Manchester after the Brazil international received a red card in the 3-0 loss to the Hammers.
Brendan Rodgers’s side are in fifth place in the Premier League table following two wins, a draw and a loss.
