Liverpool target explains why he picked Roma over other clubs
Paris Saint-Germain defender Lucas Digne explains why he joined Roma on a season-long loan ahead of Liverpool
Lucas Digne has revealed why he rejected the chance to join Liverpool in favour of a season-loan long at Roma.
The Paris Saint-Germain defender was touted as a target for the Merseyside outfit as Brendan Rodgers looked to strengthen his defensive options.
However, the 22-year-old, who moved to the French capital in 2013, completed a temporary switch to Roma before the close of the summer transfer window.
And Digne, who has made eight appearances for France, admitted that playing in the Champions League was a big factor in his decision to move to the Rome outfit.
“Both the Roma fans and my teammates have welcomed me really well,” Digne is quoted as saying by Canal Football Club.
“I was pleased to be immediately put at ease by my teammates, they gave me confidence and have joked around with me from day one.
“Rudi Garcia has played an important role because I know him from Lille, he really wanted me at Roma.
“Other teams also wanted me but I quickly chose Roma, playing in the Champions League was a big factor.”
Digne scored two goals in 43 Ligue 1 appearances for Lille under current manager Rudi Garcia before he completed a move to PSG in 2013.
However, the France international has struggled to tie down a regular starting spot for the Ligue 1 champions, making 29 league appearances over two seasons.
Former PSG captain Mamadou Sakho is currently plying his trade at 18-time English champions Liverpool.
