Louis Saha: Man United signing Anthony Martial can emulate Arsenal legend
Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha runs the rule over £36m summer signing Anthony Martial
Anthony Martial can be as good as Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, according to Louis Saha.
The France international was the big deadline day signing in the Premier League after he completed a £36m move to Old Trafford from Ligue 1 side Monaco.
In France we call him the next Thierry Henry because he can play left or right, he’s got a great ability with the ball, he can take on three, four players with ease, there is no problem
The most-expensive teenager in European football history scored just 11 goals in 52 appearances in the French top-flight before his United move.
And former Red Devils striker Saha encouraged the comparisons between Martial and Henry in his assessment of Louis van Gaal’s big-money summer signing.
“He’s got that speed, that power, he’s got that youth in him so he’ll surprise a lot of defenders because they don’t know him,” Saha is quoted as saying by Goal.com.
“It’s a great asset for Manchester United and that’s what they needed because up front they lack speed sometimes.
“In France we call him the next Thierry Henry because he can play left or right, he’s got a great ability with the ball, he can take on three, four players with ease, there is no problem. At the same time, the new generation have no fear.
“He’s got such an ability that he can win trophies for Manchester United I believe that, but I don’t want to put too much pressure on him.”
Martial is the third most-expensive signing in United’s history behind Angel di Maria and Juan Mata.
The teenager has been handed the number nine shirt after Radamel Falcao vacated the number following his Old Trafford exit this summer.
Martial won his first France cap in a 1-0 victory over Portugal on Friday night.
