Louis van Gaal: Anthony Martial bought for next Man United manager

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal says the Red Devils paid a ridiculous fee for Anthony Martial

Louis van Gaal says Anthony Martial was signed for the next Manchester United manager.

The Red Devils signed the 19-year-old France international in a £36m deal from Ligue 1 side Monaco on transfer deadline day last week.

Martial was Van Gaal’s most-expensive signing of the summer after the United manager snapped up seven new players.

However, the outspoken United manager has brazenly claimed that the Red Devils splashed out a ridiculous fee on the French teenager.

“It was a ridiculous amount of money, but it’s the crazy world we are in,” Van Gaal is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

“United are routinely quoted £10m more for a player but I have not bought Martial for me. I have bought him for the next manager of Manchester United.”

Martial won his first France cap in a 1-0 victory over Portugal in Lisbon on Friday night after he came on as a second-half substitution.

The teenager could make his United debut in their clash against bitter rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.
