Louis van Gaal sends warning to Man United fans over Anthony Martial
Louis van Gaal was thrilled by Anthony Martial's scoring debut but warns Manchester United fans not to expect too much from him
Louis van Gaal has warned Manchester United supporters not to expect too much from Anthony Martial too soon after the teenager announced himself to the Premier League with a stunning goal against Liverpool.
The 19-year-old, who joined United from Monaco in a £36m deal on transfer deadline day, slotted him the Red Devils’ third goal in style as Van Gaal’s men secured a 3-1 victory over their fierce rivals at Old Trafford.
He has a great talent and he can improve. He shall get better and better

However, despite the youngster’s price tag and stunning debut, Van Gaal warned that it will take time for the forward to fully adapt to the rigours of the Premier League.
Van Gaal told Sky Sports: “The goal of Anthony was not a bad goal, I think!
“It was a good match for him because Liverpool had to come [at us] so he had a lot of space. It was more easy to bring him on but he did alright.
“He scored a marvellous goal and I have seen also that, physically, he can play in the Premier League. And he can dribble as you have seen.
“I am very happy for him. But we have to say, he’s 19 years old and he’s out of France and it is very difficult for a 19-year-old player to adapt to the culture of England, the Premier League and the high rhythm of the game here but he has a great talent and he can improve. He shall get better and better.”
Goals from Daley Blind, Ander Herrera and Martial handed Van Gaal’s men a victory which hoisted them up to second place in the Premier League table, five points behind leaders Manchester City.
And the Dutchman felt that the victory was fully merited.
He continued: “Each game against Liverpool is more easy than against Swansea City – they are a ghost club for me apparently because we win again against Liverpool and I think it was more than deserved.
“We controlled the match until the first goal, and after that we brought Liverpool again into a match.
“But we have scored wonderful goals and then the entrance of our player, Martial, only 19 years old, and he scored with his second or third touch and the way he did it was fantastic.”
