Manchester United confirm that Luke Shaw has undergone surgery in Holland after he suffered a double fracture of his right leg
Luke Shaw is recovering in a hospital in Eindhoven after undergoing surgery on a broken leg on Tuesday night, Manchester United have confirmed in a statement.
The Red Devils defender suffered a double fracture of his right leg early in the first half of Manchester United’s 2-1 Champions League defeat by PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands.
Shaw was attended to by medical staff and was carried off on a stretcher after a lengthy delay, and United opted for the left-back to undergo surgery in the Netherlands rather than fly him back to Manchester for the procedure.
A United statement read: “Luke Shaw underwent surgery on his injury on Tuesday night and will remain in hospital in Eindhoven to continue his early recovery.
“Manchester United are grateful for the excellent care he is receiving and would like to thank everyone who has sent messages of support.
“A further update will be provided in due course.”
The 20-year-old defender suffered the horrific in the 15th minute when he was brought down by a hefty challenge by Hector Moreno.
There has been an outpouring of support for the former Southampton star on social media following his injury, with Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata among his Manchester United team-mates to have publicly wished him a speedy recovery.
