Man United legend Phil Neville runs the rule over Anthony Martial
Former Man Uted defender Phil Neville says Monaco forward Anthony Martial looks like a 'top player'
Phil Neville says Monaco forward Anthony Martial would be a good signing for Manchester United.
The Red Devils are reported to be closing in on the £36m signing after speculation suggested Martial had left the France squad to fly to Manchester ahead of a big-money transfer.
Martial has scored eight goals in 31 Ligue 1 appearances for Monaco since France Under-21 international moved to the Principality from Lyon in 2013.
And former United defender Neville, who is currently the assistant manager at Valencia, endorsed the Red Devils’s pursuit of the highly-rated Monaco forward.
“I experienced Anthony Martial first hand when we played against Monaco recently. He played brilliantly and looks a top player. If he were to sign, he would be an excellent late addition to the Manchester United squad,” Neville wrote on BreatheSport.
Martial signed a three-year deal and made his Ligue 1 debut for Les Rouges et Blancs in November 2013, nettng two league goals as the club finished runners-up to Paris Saint-Germain in the French top flight.
In his two and a half seasons as a professional, Martial has netted just 13 league goals, all of which have come for Monaco and 10 of which were scored in league action
