Man United signing Anthony Martial like Thierry Henry, says Yohan Cabaye
France midfielder Yohan Cabaye says Man United signing Anthony Martial is similar to Arsenal legend Thierry Henry
Yohan Cabaye says Manchester United signing Anthony Martial does have similar qualities to Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.
The 19-year-old forward completed a deadline day £36m move to the Red Devils from Ligue 1 side Monaco as he came United’s third-most expensive signing.
Martial, who won his first France cap last week, scored 11 goals in 52 Ligue 1 games for Lyon and Monaco before his big-money switch to Old Trafford.
And Crystal Palace midfielder Cabaye, who moved to Selhurst Park from Paris Saint-Germain in a £10m deal this summer, urged the Red Devils to give Martial time to produce his best performances.
“He is like Thierry Henry. Trust me,” Cabaye told Daily Mirror. “He has the same qualities as Thierry.
“Now, give him the time to prove it you on the pitch.”
Martial signed a three-year deal and made his Ligue 1 debut for Monaco in November 2013, netting two league goals as the club finished runners-up to Paris Saint-Germain in the French top flight.
In his two and a half seasons as a professional, Martial has netted just 13 league goals, all of which have come for Monaco and 10 of which were scored in league action.
