Man United squad won’t have any issues with David De Gea, says ex coach
Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea will be welcomed back into Red Devils squad, says Steve Round
David De Gea will be welcomed back into the Manchester United squad, according to Steve Round.
The Red Devils goalkeeper hasn’t featured for the 20-time English champions this season after the Spain international came close to joining Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.
The boys will be glad to see him play, he is such a good goalkeeper and if I was a defender, I would want De Gea behind me
However, De Gea, who has less than a year on his current contract, failed to secure a big-money switch to the Spanish capital before La Liga’s deadline and the shot stopper remained at Old Trafford.
And former United assistant manager Round doesn’t see any issues for De Gea upon his return to first-team training as the shot stopper looks to win back his place in Louis van Gaal’s side.
“He’s an integral part of the United team and so influential. The players have no problem with David,” Round told Sky Sports.
“He’s such a good professional and a good guy around the place and very popular. I think they’ll welcome him back without a doubt. There won’t be any issues within the dressing room whatsoever.
“The boys will be glad to see him play, he is such a good goalkeeper and if I was a defender, I would want De Gea behind me.
“And there are no bigger games. This is massive and he’ll want to play in this game. Go out there and prove your worth, show what you’re about.
“And it would be a great game for him to re-establish himself, not only with the manager, the team, the fans but also himself.”
Van Gaal has started with summer signing Sergio Romero in the United goal for their opening four Premier League games.
However, the Argentina international was criticised after a 2-1 defeat by Swansea City in their last top-flight outing.
