Man United star Juan Mata hails Anthony Martial’s ‘dream debut’
Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata reflects on an 'important win' for the Red Devils against Liverpool
Juan Mata has backed Anthony Martial to blossom into a prolific goal-scorer for Manchester United after a “dream debut” in a 3-1 win against Liverpool on Saturday.
The United teenager sealed three points for the Red Devils with their third goal of the game after he danced past the Liverpool defence before he beat Simon Mignolet with a neat finish.
France international Martial became Europe’s most-expensive teenager after he moved to United from Ligue 1 side Monaco in a £36m deal on transfer deadline day earlier this month.
United midfielder Mata expressed his delight at the 19-year-old forward’s immediate impact as the Spain international reflected on an important win for the Red Devils.
“I’m very happy for Anthony,” Mata wrote in his blog, One Hour Behind.
“It’s a dream debut and I’m sure this is going to be the first goal of many…”
Mata also praised the United supporters for giving goalkeeper David De Gea a warm welcome despite the shot stopper’s collapsed move to Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.
Mata added: “It was an important win for many reasons: we were able to overcome Rooney’s absence, our new team-mate Martial scored his first goal, De Gea received a warm ovation from the fans.
“I think it was one of those perfect days.”
