Man United starlet Anthony Martial is special, declares Claudio Ranieri

Claudio Ranieri says that Manchester United tarlet Anthony Martial has a "special" instinct in front of goal

Claudio Ranieri has heaped praise on Anthony Martial following the teenager’s stunning start to life at Manchester United.

The 19-year-old arrived at Old Trafford from Monaco on transfer deadline day, with many questioning Louis van Gaal’s decision to bring the youngster to the club instead of opting to sign a more experienced forward.

However, Martial has hit the ground running and has netted three goals in his first three games, including an impressive brace in Sunday’s 3-2 win over Southampton at St Mary’s.

And Leicester City boss Ranieri, who managed Martial during his spell at Monaco, has been thoroughly impressed by what he has seen from the youngster, claiming that he has the ability to “smell” a goal when an opportunity presents itself.

Ranieri is quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror: “He has that fantastic ability when he can smell a goal and then switches on at just the right moment – that is Anthony.

“It’s important for him to score as he cost a lot of money and the people expect goals from him.

“Every time he touched the ball, something special happened. Maybe he was not involved in the game then suddenly, whoosh, he’d come to life.”

Martial could make his fourth appearance for United when the Red Devils host Ipswich Town in the third round of the League Cup on Tuesday night.
