Man United starlet’s father reveals failed Arsenal approach
Indy Boonen's father has revealed that Arsenal failed to lure his son to Emirates Stadium this summer
Indy Boonen’s father has revealed that Arsenal failed to lure his son to Emirates Stadium as the teenager opted for a transfer to Manchester United this summer.
The 16-year-old starlet joined the Premier League outfit from KRC Genk’s youth academy earlier this year and the Red Devils have integrated the teenager into their Under-18 set-up.
Boonen is understood to have attracted interest from a number of top European clubs before eventually sealing his move to Old Trafford.
And the attacking midfielder’s father says that Arsenal were amongst the clubs to invite his son for a trial, but Boonen had his heart set on a move to Manchester United.
Boonen’s father told Het Belang van Limburg: “Indy first went on trial with Salzburg, Manchester United were the second club.
“Arsenal, Feyenoord, Wolfsburg and Basel were also after him; Ajax had also shown an interest”, Boonen senior continued.
“But Indy always wanted to join Manchester United and after his week-long trial period he called me and said, ‘I want to play football here’.”
Manchester United return to Premier League action when they host Liverpool at Old Trafford next weekend after the international break.
The Red Devils slumped to a 2-1 loss to Swansea City in their most recent top-flight outing to leave them fifth in the Premier League table.
