Man United transfers: Louis van Gaal talks up Julian Draxler
Louis van Gaal is a keen admirer of Wolfsburg playmaker Julian Draxler
Louis van Gaal has fuelled speculation linking Manchester United with a possible transfer swoop for Julian Draxler by revealing his admiration for the playmaker.
Van Gaal’s United side are set to come up against the highly-rated German when they take on Wolfsburg at Old Trafford in the Champions League group stage on Wednesday night.
Draxler was heavily linked with a move to the Premier League before he opted to join Wolfsburg from Schalke this summer, with Arsenal one of the many top clubs believed to be interested in the 22-year-old.
Now, Van Gaal has triggered fresh reports that United could be lining up a bid for the attacker by admitting that he is a keen admirer of the Germany international.
Asked about Draxler, Van Gaal told United’s website: “He was a very young talent when I was there [in Germany, managing Bayern], so I know him.
“He has to go on a long road like [Anthony] Martial, although it could be a little bit shorter because he has been playing longer on that level. He is a very good player.”
United moved one point clear at the top of the Premier League on Saturday thanks to a 3-0 win over Sunderland at Old Trafford.
