Man United transfers: Real Madrid chief discusses Sergio Ramos’ future
Florentino Perez insists that Sergio Ramos was never close to leaving Real Madrid despite apparent interest from Manchester United
Sergio Ramos was never close to leaving Real Madrid to join Manchester United this summer, Florentino Perez has insisted.
The Red Devils were heavily linked with a big money swoop for the Spain international defender early on during the summer transfer window but were unable to tempt him to Old Trafford as he eventually committed his future to Real by signing a new long-term contract with the La Liga outfit.
And after the situation was resolved amicably, Real Madrid president Perez claimed that a move away from the Bernabeu for Ramos was never on the cards.
Perez told Cadena COPE: “Ramos never wanted to leave Madrid and Madrid never wanted him to leave.
“It took us five minutes to fix it.”
Manchester United return to Premier League action when they host Liverpool at Old Trafford on Saturday evening looking to return to winning ways in the top flight after their surprise 2-1 loss to Swansea City in their most recent outing.
The Red Devils are currently fifth in the Premier League table after taking seven points from their first four games.
