Marcos Rojo runs rule over ‘scary’ Man United manager Louis van Gaal
Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo admits he was scared of Louis van Gaal in their first meeting
Marcos Rojo says Louis van Gaal was scary when the defender first met the Manchester United manager.
The Argentina international was signed by the Red Devils boss in a £16m deal from Sporting Lisbon last summer after he impressed at the World Cup.
Rojo hasn’t featured for the 20-time English champions this season after he was granted an extended break following the Copa America.
And the United defender, who has been working on his fitness over the past month or so, revealed what it is like working under Van Gaal at Old Trafford.
“He has a really strong personality, but he is a great person,” Rojo told Fox Sports Argentina. “He has a bulldog face, but he is great guy.
“He’s scary at first, but when you get to know him and relate to him on daily basis, you get along, but only if you listen to him. He listens to us, and even speaks a little bit of Spanish, so he always takes me to his office for a pep talk.”
Rojo could make his return to the United side for their clash against Liverpool at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
The 25-year-old made 25 appearances in all competitions during his debut Premier League campaign, and it hoping to rack up many more should he be given a prolonged run at the heart of United’s defence.
Before making the £16m switch to the North West, Rojo shone for Sporting Lisbon and Spartak Moscow, and has amassed 37 Argentina caps to date.
