Martin Keown: Why Man United have made the signing of the summer
Martin Keown says Manchester United's signing of Bastian Schweinsteiger could be a top piece of business
Martin Keown believes that Manchester United’s signing of Bastian Schweinsteiger from Bayern Munich could end up being the summer’s best piece of transfer business.
The Red Devils snapped up the World Cup winner in July as Louis van Gaal opted to add some further experience to his squad ahead of his second season in charge at Old Trafford.
The veteran midfielder has made five Premier League appearances for United since arriving at the club and played the full 90 minutes as the Red Devils sealed an impressive 3-1 win over Liverpool at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.
And former Arsenal defender Keown reckons that United’s recruit of the experienced midfielder could end up being a top piece of transfer business.
Keown told the Daily Mail: “I think Bastian Schweinsteiger was magnificent for Germany against Scotland and could have a big impact.
“He is already a top player and could turn out to be a fantastic signing for United.
“He has a real hallmark of quality about him and can run games from midfield.
“He may not be a long-term solution but he could be a top signing.”
Manchester United travel to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Tuesday night before taking on Southampton at St Mary’s in their next Premier League game on Sunday afternoon.
