Mata, Rooney and more: Man United stars react to Wolfsburg win

Juan Mata and Wayne Rooney take to Instagram after narrow Man United win

Wayne Rooney hailed Manchester United’s in-form Juan Mata after the Spanish playmaker inspired a 2-1 victory over Wolfsburg in the Champions Legue on Wednesday night.

The former Chelsea midfielder, who moved to the Red Devils in a £37.1m deal in 2014, levelled for the hosts after Daniel Caligiuri finished off a six-pass move for a fourth-minute opener.

Spain international Mata produced a brilliant pass to tee up United centre-half Chris Smalling for the home side’s winner with 37 minutes remaining at Old Trafford.

United captain Rooney is thrilled with three big points for Louis van Gaal’s men and knows who is to thank for the positive result:

Big 3 points. Great to see @smalling on the score sheet along with this man, he's on fire! @juanmatagarcia #mufc

Man of the moment Mata thanks the Red Devils supporters at the Theatre of Dreams for creating a brilliant atmosphere:

United defender Phil Jones made his return to action on Wednesday night but the England international is already thinking about Sunday’s trip to Arsenal:
