Mauricio Pochettino: Arsenal derby has arrived at a good time for Tottenham
The Tottenham manager wants Spurs to continue their winning momentum
Mauricio Pochettino says the first north London derby of the season has come at a good time for Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs edged to a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace to notch up their third successive win in all competitions after an initial slow start to the campaign.
Arsenal, meanwhile, make the short trip to White Hart Lane fresh from back-to-back defeats by Chelsea in the Premier League and Dinamo Zagreb in Europe.
Speaking to Spurs TV, Pochettino urged his Spurs players to enjoy the third-round clash as the Lilywhites look to reach successive League Cup finals.
“You can feel that it is a very important game. This game has arrived at a good moment. We are excited to play Arsenal,” Pochettino said.
Pochettino, who took over the reins at White Hart Lane in 2014, demanded that Tottenham extend their winning run after victories over Sunderland, Qarabag and Palace.
“It is a big game. We know it is a very important game for us and our supporters. I expect a very tough game,” Pochettino added.
“It is a good chance to show the progression of the team after three victories. It is important to keep the momentum.”
Tottenham are unbeaten against Arsenal in two games since Argentinian coach Pochettino took charge of the League Cup runners-up in May 2014.
