Mauricio Pochettino talks up Hugo Lloris’ commitment to Tottenham
Mauricio Pochettino says that he did not need to convince Hugo Lloris to commit his future to Tottenham Hotspur
Mauricio Pochettino claims that Hugo Lloris remains fully committed to Tottenham Hotspur following the transfer speculation surrounding his future during the summer months.
The France international goalkeeper was touted as a possible target for Manchester United during the summer window amid the uncertainty over David De Gea’s future at Old Trafford.
However, a move away from Spurs failed to materialise for the 28-year-old, who has been handed the captaincy at White Hart Lane by Pochettino.
And the Spurs boss feels that the goalkeeper is fully committed to the north London club, despite the recent talk of Lloris leaving White Hart Lane in search of Champions League football.
Pochettino told a news conference on Thursday: “I don’t think I need to convince anybody. I think that Tottenham is a big club and the players want to play for Tottenham and all players are happy.
“I don’t know why you still say that Hugo wants to play Champions League because he is very happy. I told you before.
“I think it is important in the way that he showed his commitment here and I am happy with him. Hugo is a very important player for us and he is our captain and he is a personality and commitment is important to show for the team.”
Tottenham notched up their first Premier League win of the season on Sunday as Ryan Mason’s late winner handed them a 1-0 victory at Sunderland.
The north London club return to top-flight action against Crystal Palace at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
