Mesut Ozil: I know exactly what Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger thinks of me

Mesut Ozil discusses his relationship with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger

Mesut Ozil says that Arsene Wenger knows exactly “what makes him tick” and that the Arsenal boss can get the very best out of him.

Ozil has enjoyed a solid start to the new Premier League season and notched up his second assist of the season as he set up Theo Walcott’s opener in the Gunners’ 2-0 win over Stoke City on Saturday.

The playmaker has started four of Arsenal’s five top-flight games as he helped Wenger’s men move up to third place in the table, five points behind early leaders Manchester City.

And the World Cup winner says that he is thoroughly enjoying working with Wenger following his big money transfer to Emirates Stadium from Real Madrid in the summer of 2013.

Ozil told Arsenal Player: “He knows exactly how I tick and I know exactly what he thinks of me.

“I just want to help the team as much as possible on the pitch – that’s my target.

“Of course sometimes things work better than at other times, that’s football, but the manager believes in me and that means a lot to me.

“He has experience and in past years you’ve seen him develop some top players. I get on really well with him and he gives me his trust.

“I’m thankful to him for that and to be praised by a coach like him means a lot.

“I thank him for that through good performances on the pitch.”

Ozil will be expecting to feature when Arsenal take on Dinamo Zagreb in their Champions League opener on Wednesday night, before the Gunners travel to Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
