Nemanja Matic fires warning at Arsenal ahead of Chelsea showdown

Nemanja Matic says Chelsea will be fully focused on returning to winning ways against Arsenal next weekend

Nemanja Matic has warned Arsenal that Chelsea will be more determined than ever to claim victory when the Blues host their London rivals at Stamford Bridge next weekend.

Chelsea’s stuttering start to the season continued on Saturday as they slumped to a 3-1 defeat by Everton at Goodison Park to leave Jose Mourinho’s men 11 points behind leaders Manchester City after just five games.

The west London side have the chance to return to winning ways when they host Maccabi Tel Aviv in Wednesday’s Champions League group-stage opener, before welcoming Arsenal to Stamford Bridge on Saturday lunchtime in the Premier League.

And the Serbia international has warned the Gunners that Mourinho’s men will be completely focused on turning their season around when they take on the north London side in the top flight.

Matic told Chelsea’s website: “It’s good we have another game in a couple of days against Maccabi. We have to win, for our own confidence and for the fans.

“Then we have a derby against Arsenal, so I hope we will be ready for that and we can take three points.”

He continued: “Chelsea are not used to being on runs like we are at the moment but this is the reality. We have to work hard to get our game back to the way we played last season.

“I really don’t know what’s happened but it’s not good for us and we need to see what we can do better as a team.”

Chelsea sealed a 2-0 win over Arsenal at Stamford Bridge last season, before playing out a goalless draw at The Emirates in the reverse fixture.
