New Man United signing sends message to ‘friends’ ahead of Liverpool clash

Morgan Schneiderlin has warned some of his former Southampton team-mates that there will be no time for pleasantries when Manchester United host Liverpool at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The Red Devils take on the Merseyside outfit looking to return to winning ways in the Premier League after their surprise 2-1 loss to Swansea in their most recent outing before the international break.

The France international is set to come up against some of his former Southampton pals when United take on Liverpool, with the likes of Nathaniel Clyne, Dejan Lovren and Adam Lallana potentially set to feature for the Reds.

However, Schneiderlin, who joined United from Southampton this summer, insists that he will be purely focused on helping Louis van Gaal’s men secure three points against the visitors.

Schneiderlin told United’s website: “It’ll be nice to see them off the pitch after the game, they are friends and we had good times together.

“On the pitch, like in any game, they will be our enemies. We’ll speak and have a laugh afterwards but, before and during the game, there are no friends.”

The Red Devils are currently fifth in the Premier League table and level on points with Liverpool after having taken seven from their opening four top-flight games.
