Paul Merson: Why I’m a big fan of Tottenham striker Harry Kane
Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson believes Spurs striker Harry Kane should target 15 Premier League goals this season
Paul Merson says Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane should target 15 goals in the Premier League this season.
The England international was a revelation for the north London side last season after he scored 21 times in 34 Premier League games and a further 10 goals in 17 cup appearances.
If he gets 15 goals and keeps showing the potential he has then he will turn out to be a top-drawer player in the long run
The 22-year-old has struggled at the start of the current campaign, though, as the Chingford-born striker waits for his first Premier League goal after failing to find the net against Manchester United, Leicester, Sunderland and Everton.
However, former Arsenal midfielder Merson, who is a self-confessed supporter of Kane, is confident that the Spurs striker will blossom into a top-class player in the coming seasons.
“Harry Kane is a top player, I really like him and he’ll cause Sunderland all sorts of problems.
“His two goals for England will help his confidence, although I thought he’d played well in the opening four games of the season.
“If I’m being honest, he might not get 30 goals again, people need to understand that, but if he gets 15 goals and keeps showing the potential he has then he will turn out to be a top-drawer player in the long run.
“That’s coming from a former Arsenal player! I’m a big fan of his.”
Kane scored in England’s 6-0 win against San Marino last Friday before he broke the deadlock in the Three Lions’s 2-0 victory over Switzerland at Wembley on Tuesday.
The Spurs striker has scored three goals in four games for England.
