Paul Merson: Why Liverpool will scrape to victory over Norwich

Paul Merson is tipping Liverpool to seal a narrow win over Norwich on Sunday afternoon

Paul Merson is tipping Liverpool to edge to a narrow victory over Norwich City in their Premier League clash at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds head into the game against the Canaries on the back of their disappointing 3-1 loss to Manchester United in their most recent Premier League outing.

Brendan Rodgers’ men have taken seven points from their opening five Premier League games to leave them in 10th place in the table heading into Sunday’s showdown.

But despite their recent stuttering form, former Arsenal midfielder Merson is backing the Merseyside outfit to claim the three points over Norwich at Anfield – just.

Merson told Sky Sports: “Norwich scored three goals against Bournemouth the other day and played very well. I didn’t see it coming.

“I’ll go with Liverpool, but I could easily be sitting back on Sunday thinking ‘why didn’t I go for what I fancied with a draw?’ Coutinho will be back, and he makes the difference, just.”

Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw by Bordeaux in their Europa League group-stage opener on Thursday night.

Manager Rodgers hinted on Friday that both Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge could be set to play a part against the Canaries this weekend after their injury lay-offs.
