France and Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba runs rule over Manchester United signing Anthony Martial
Paul Pogba says Manchester United signing Anthony Martial is like a “little old man”.
The 19-year-old forward completed a £36m move to the Red Devils from Ligue 1 side Monaco on transfer deadline day last Tuesday.
He’s going to play with some big players and he’ll make a lot of progress
Martial became United’s third most-expensive signing despite scoring just 11 goals in 52 Ligue 1 appearances for Monaco.
And Pogba, who left United for Serie A champions Juventus in 2013, backed Martial to become a better player at the 20-time English champions.
“I already call him ‘little old man,'” Pogba told Telefoot. “He’s 19 and he’s already very mature for his age.
“He has great qualities and very big potential. He’s going to bring a lot to the French team and I’m very happy for him.
“Now he’s changed club and he’s going to get to know the Premier League. He’s going to play with some big players and he’ll make a lot of progress.”
Martial, who won his France cap last week, could make his United debut against Liverpool at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.
Louis van Gaal signed midfielders Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin and Memphis Depay, defender Matteo Darmian and Argentina goalkeeper Sergio Romero in the summer transfer window.
Robin van Persie moved to Fenerbahce, Javier Hernandez joined Bayer Leverkusen and Adnan Januzaj sealed a season-long loan move to Borussia Dortmund.
