Pele: Why I’d rather play for Arsenal than Chelsea

Pele would rather be a Gooner than a Blue...

Pele has gone some way towards winning over the hearts of Arsenal fans by declaring that he would prefer to play for the Gunners than their London rivals Chelsea.

The two capital clubs were in the headlines last weekend after Arsene Wenger’s men were reduced to nine men during Chelsea’s 2-0 win over the north London club at Stamford Bridge.

Gabriel Paulista was sent off for clashing with Diego Costa late in the first half, although the Football Association overturned the red card decision.

Santi Cazorla was also dismissed late on for a second bookable offence.

And Brazil legend Pele admits that he would rather line up for the Gunners than the Blues if given the chance.

Pele is quoted as saying by Metro: “Arsenal is a good team to play for. I like the teams that play open football.

“Between Chelsea and Arsenal? I would play for Arsenal if I had the chance.”

Pele also admitted that he was unimpressed by Costa’s behaviour during the game as the Brazilian was hit with a three-game retrospective ban after the match.

He continued: “It is not a good message for children. He didn’t get a red card, but he was charged. It was dirty.

“Unfortunately so many things like this happen on the pitch and this is not good. That’s clear. It is not good for football.”
