Petr Cech: My one highlight from Arsenal’s defeat by Chelsea
Petr Cech says he still enjoyed his return to Stamford Bridge with Arsenal despite their 2-0 loss to Chelsea
Petr Cech admits that the warm reception he received from the Chelsea fans was a big highlight for him after he was unable to prevent Arsenal from slipping to a 2-0 loss on his return to Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Cech lined up against his former club at their home ground in west London for the first time since leaving Chelsea to join the Gunners during the summer transfer window.
Arsenal were reduced to nine men in a dramatic London derby at Stamford Bridge as Gabriel Paulista and Santi Cazorla were sent off for the Gunners.
Goals from Kurt Zouma and Eden Hazard in the second half in west London handed the Blues a Premier League win over their London rivals.
And although goalkeeper Cech admits that he disappointed by the manner of the loss to Chelsea, the shot-stopper took the time to thank the Stamford Bridge faithful for giving him such a warm reception.
Cech told Arsenal’s website: “I came back and hoped that I could get a result for my new team. We prepared for the game but couldn’t win.
“My individual highlight will be the reception I got from the fans which was amazing.
“I would like to thank everybody but obviously I would have liked to win the game. We go home with no points so that’s the disappointing part.
“You come here to play football, you want to win a football match, and we didn’t win.”
