Alexis Sanchez wishes Danny Welbeck a speedy recovery after the Arsenal striker underwent knee surgery

Alexis Sanchez took to social media to send a ‘get well soon’ message to Danny Welbeck after the Arsenal striker was ruled out of action for a number of months following knee surgery.

The England international forward will be on the sidelines for a period of months after going under the knife to address the problem in his left knee.

Welbeck has not featured for Arsenal since April but it had been hoped that the forward could recover from the problem without the need to undergo surgery.

But the Gunners confirmed the news of the procedure last week.

Sanchez, who has been on international duty with Chile, shared the photo above on his personal Instagram account on Wednesday afternoon and wrote: “Much strength my friend and I hope that you return to the team soon and to see you happy as in this photo ! 💪🏼”

The striker scored eight goals in his first 34 games for Arsenal after joining the north London club from rivals Manchester United last summer.

Welbeck’s last appearance for the club came in the 2-1 win over Reading back on 18 April.

Arsenal, who are currently sixth in the Premier League table, return to top-flight action when they host Stoke City at Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
