Mesut Ozil took to social media to wish Jerome Boateng a happy birthday after the Bayern Munich man turned 27 on Thursday.

Ozil is set to come up against his German international team-mate when Arsenal take on Bayern in the group stage of this season’s Champions League.

The pair know each other well from their time spent playing together for the German national side and helped their country win the World Cup last summer.

And Ozil used his personal Instagram account to send his best wishes to Boateng on Thursday, sharing the photo above and writing: “Happy Birthday, my friend 😜✌😉🎉🎉🎁🎈 #Bro #Mesut #Jerome”

Arsenal take on Bayern Munich at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday 20 October, before taking on the Bundesliga side in Germany on Wednesday 4 November.

The Gunners, who are currently sixth in the Premier League table, return to top-flight action when they host Stoke City at Emirates Stadium after the international break.

Ozil missed last weekend’s 1-0 win over Newcastle with a minor knee injury.
