David De Gea admits his delight after signing a new four-year contract with Manchester United
David De Gea has moved to end the speculation about his future by signing a new four-year contract with Manchester United.
The Red Devils announced the news of the deal via social media on Friday afternoon.
De Gea’s previous contract was set to expire next summer, and his new deal includes the option for a further year.
The Spaniard had looked to be on course to join Real Madrid on transfer deadline day but the deal fell through after the necessary paperwork was not submitted in time.
“I am delighted to be starting this new chapter in my United career,” De Gea told United’s website.
“I have always enjoyed playing with these great players in front of our fantastic fans. Manchester United is a special club and Old Trafford is an ideal place for me to continue to develop my career.
“I’m looking forward to putting a difficult summer behind me and concentrating on working hard to improve and help my team-mates to be successful.”
The 24-year-old has not yet featured for United this season but could make his first appearance of the new campaign when the Red Devils host Liverpool at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
De Gea has made 175 appearances for the Premier League outfit since joining United from Atletico Madrid back in 2011 in an £18.9m deal.
He was voted the club’s player of the season last year as United finished fourth in the Premier League.
