Arsenal defender Gabriel Paulista is eagerly anticipating his first Champions League appearance

Gabriel Paulista is eagerly anticipating his first Champions League appearance ahead of Arsenal’s clash against Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday night.

The Brazil international is yet to make an appearance in Europe’s top tier competition after he joined the north London side in a £10m deal from La Liga side Villarreal in January.

Gabriel has started Arsenal’s last three Premier League games which have coincided with three successive clean sheets for the FA Cup holders.

And the 24-year-old took to Instagram to rally his Arsenal team-mates ahead of their first Champions League group-stage fixture.

Gabriel wrote on the photo-sharing app: “Today begins a new stage in my life, the first champions league of many that will come. Thank you God for everything, lets go @arsenal #gabrielisagunner #braziliangunner #UCL”

The Arsenal centre-half is facing a big week with his first Champions League game swiftly followed by a trip to defending Premier League champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in Saturday’s early kick-off.

More: Stats show Gabriel must start ahead of Mertesacker

Gabriel has made 10 appearances for the north London side in all competitions following his move to The Emirates from the Yellow Submarine.
