Gabriel Paulista reveals his delight after the red card he was shown during Chelsea's win over Arsenal was rescinded
Gabriel Paulista took to social media on Tuesday evening to reveal his delight after it was announced that the appeal against his red card during Arsenal’s loss to Chelsea was successful.
The 24-year-old defender was sent off by referee Mike Dean for violent conduct after a clash with Diego Costa during the first half of the Blues’ 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Arsenal’s successful appeal means he will now not serve a three-match suspension and could face Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane in the third round of the League Cup on Wednesday night.
And Gabriel used his Instagram account to reveal his delight at the news, posting the picture above on the app and writing: “God is always fair #Repost @arsenal with @repostapp. @gpaulista5 has had his red card from Saturday rescinded. #Gunners #Gabriel #Arsenal”
An FA Statement read: “Arsenal’s claim of wrongful dismissal in relation to Gabriel has been upheld following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing.
“The player’s three-match suspension has, therefore, been withdrawn with immediate effect.”
The defender is subject to a separate Football Association charge of improper conduct to which he has until 18:00 BST on Thursday to respond.
He did not leave the pitch immediately after receiving his red card, and faces possible punishment from the Football Association.
