Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel poses for a snap with his former Zenit team-mate Anatoliy Tymoshchuk
Martin Skrtel had an eventful Tuesday night.
The Liverpool defender captained Slovakia to a goalless draw with Ukraine which edged his national team closer to qualification for Euro 2016.
Skrtel, who missed their 1-0 loss to Spain through suspension, was subjected to a random drugs test which appeared to damper his spirits after a point.
But the 30-year-old centre-half did get to catch up with his former Zenit St Petersburg team-mate Anatoliy Tymoshchuk, who won the Champions League with Bayern Munich at Wembley in 2013, after the final whistle.
Skrtel wrote on his Instagram page: “Good point against ukraine yesterday took us closer to euro 2016…one more step boys!!!was a nice to meet my old friend @power4timo again…and of course for the 7th time this year spend 2 hours after the game on doping control 🙈🙈🙈 @konoplyanka22 and @yarmolenko10 i hope you guys enjoyed slovakian non alcoholic beer ”
The Reds defender helped Brendan Rodgers’s side keep three successive clean sheets before a 3-0 loss to West Ham United in their most recent Premier League outing before the international break.
Liverpool have the chance to make amends for their shock Hammers loss at Old Trafford on Saturday evening as Liverpool make the short trip to bitter rivals Manchester United in the Premier League.
