Wayne Rooney is feeling the love after breaking England's all-time goal-scoring record
Wayne Rooney took to social media on Thursday morning to thank his fans for their support after the Manchester United captain became England’s all-time record goal-scorer.
The striker made history by breaking Sir Bobby Charlton’s Three Lions record in the Euro 2016 qualifier against Switzerland at Wembley on Tuesday night.
Rooney equalled Charlton’s tally of 49 with a penalty in the win over San Marino on Saturday that ensured a place in France next summer, and scored from the spot again as the Three Lions beat Switzerland 2-0.
Tributes have been flooding in for the 29-year-old forward since his reached the milestone.
And the former Everton forward used his Instagram account to thank his fans for their support after his record-breaking week.
Rooney uploaded the photo above onto his personal Instagram account on Thursday morning and wrote: “Just want to thank everybody for their kind messages over the last couple of days. I’ve read and appreciate them all! @england”
Rooney will be expecting to feature when Manchester United return to Premier League action with a home clash against Liverpool at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.
