Wayne Rooney enjoyed some time away from the pitch on Thursday afternoon as he surprised some young footballers by catching up with them during a training session.
The Manchester United captain was all smiles as he posed for a selfie with a host of the youngsters and handed over a few of pairs of boots.
Rooney posted the picture above on his personal Instagram account on Thursday evening and wrote: “Enjoyed surprising the young lads at training today. It was great working with a new generation of future strikers.”
The 29-year-old United skipper played 81 minutes and scored the Red Devils’ opener in the 3-0 win over Ipswich Town in the third round of the League Cup on Wednesday night.
That goal was Rooney’s first domestic strike of the new season and sent United on their way to a comfortable win thanks to goals from Andreas Pereira and Anthony Martial.
United now turn their attentions to their home clash with Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon as they look to keep pace with Premier League leaders Manchester City.
