Manchester United sign Anthony Martial from Monaco on a four-year contract

Manchester United have completed the signing of Anthony Martial from Monaco on a four-year contract.

The Red Devils announced the deal on social media on Tuesday afternoon, just minutes before the close of the transfer deadline at 18:00 BST.

The 19-year-old has made 70 appearances for Monaco since joining in 2013 and has scored 15 goals for the Ligue 1 club.

Martial told United’s website: “I am so excited to be joining Manchester United. I have enjoyed my time at AS Monaco and I would like to thank them and the fans for everything they have done for me.”

He has represented his country from Under-16 level to Under-21, and was called up to France’s senior national squad for the first time on 28 August of this year.

Martial becomes United’s sixth summer signing, following the arrivals of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin, Sergio Romero, Memphis Depay and Matteo Darmian.

The deal for Martial includes an option for United to extend his contract by a further year.

Manchester United are currently fifth in the Premier League table after slumping to a 2-1 defeat by Swansea City in their fourth game of the season on Sunday afternoon.
