Manchester United reveal new £36m signing Anthony Martial will wear number nine shirt after his signing

Manchester United have revealed that new signing Anthony Martial will wear the No9 shirt after he completed a move to Old Trafford on Tuesday evening.

The uncapped France striker has signed a long-term deal with the 20-time English champions after the Red Devils agreed a reported £36m deal with Ligue 1 side Monaco.

Martial has become United’s sixth signing of the summer after Louis van Gaal snapped up Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin, Matteo Darmian, Sergio Romero and Memphis Depay.

And United took to their Instagram page to confirm that Martial will succeed flop Radamel Falcao in the number nine shirt.

The Red Devils wrote on the photo-sharing app: “Our new no.9… #WelcomeMartial #mufc”

Martial signed a three-year deal and made his Ligue 1 debut for Les Rouges et Blancs in November 2013, nettng two league goals as the club finished runners-up to Paris Saint-Germain in the French top flight.

In his two and a half seasons as a professional, Martial has netted just 13 league goals, all of which have come for Monaco and 10 of which were scored in league action.
