Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger congratulates Liverpool star Emre Can on Germany debut
Bastian Schweinsteiger cast Manchester United’s rivalry with Liverpool aside as the midfielder paid tribute to Germany’s latest debutant Emre Can on Friday night.
The Reds star earned his first cap in Germany’s 3-1 victory over Poland thanks to Thomas Muller’s opener and Mario Gotze’s late brace.
Germany manager Joachim Low opted to start the versatile Liverpool player at right-back despite a horror showing at full-back at Stoke City earlier this year.
And the 22-year-old clearly impressed Schweinsteiger, who wasted no time in congratulating Can on his debut performance for the reigning world champions.
Schweinsteiger wrote on his Instagram page: “Poland was a real challenge. That’s why we are even happier about the win! Congrats to Emre Can on his debut!”
Can and Schweinsteiger will come face-to-face in the next instalment of Premier League fixtures as Liverpool make the trip to Old Trafford.
Schweinsteiger made his first Premier League start in a goalless draw with Newcastle United before retaining his place for their 2-1 defeat by Swansea City.
