The Liverpool star played his 300th game for Reds in League Cup win
Martin Skrtel has taken to Instagram to reflect on his latest Liverpool milestone.
The Slovakia defender played in his 300th game for the Reds on Wednesday night after a penalty shootout victory over Carlisle United in the League Cup third round at Anfield.
Liverpool required penalties to get past the League Two side after Danny Ings’s 23rd-minute opener was cancelled out by Derek Asamoah’s equaliser before half-time.
But a disappointing performance didn’t dampen Skrtel’s spirits after the 30-year-old centre-half underlined his desire to make even more Liverpool appearances.
Skrtel wrote on the photo-sharing app following their dramatic League Cup win: “It was a honour to wear red shirt in 300 games!!!hope there will be more and more games in the future!!thanks for the support! #ynwa #liverpoolfc #m37s #300”
The Liverpool defender was signed by Rafael Benitez in 2008 from Russian side Zenit St Petersburg.
Skrtel has won the League Cup with Liverpool during a seven-year stay at the Merseyside outfit.
The Slovakian centre-half has become a key part of Brendan Rodgers’s side over the past couple of years.
