The Manchester United defender wants to improve on second place

Matteo Darmian has urged Manchester United to build on their recent run after the Red Devils hoisted themselves up to second place in the Premier League table.

The 20-time English champions eased to a 3-2 victory over Southampton courtesy of goals from Anthony Martial and Juan Mata at St Mary’s on Sunday afternoon.

United are a mere two points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City after their second successive top-flight victory.

And the Italy international issued a United rallying cry ahead of their next Premier League game against Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Darmain wrote on the photo-sharing app Instagram: “Three other points! 2nd place! let’s keep on @manchesterunited #mufc”

The Italian defender moved to the Red Devils in a £12.5m deal from Torino in the summer transfer window.

Darmain has been ever-present in Louis van Gaal’s defence after six Premier League games.
