Real Madrid still want to sign De Gea from Man United, claims expert

Guillem Balague says Real Madrid are still likely to want to sign David De Gea from Manchester United

Real Madrid are still keen on signing David De Gea, despite the Spanish goalkeeper moving to end the speculation surrounding his future by penning a new contract with Manchester United on Friday, according to Guillem Balague.

The 24-year-old shot-stopper signed a new four-year deal with the Red Devils after his proposed transfer to Real Madrid fell through at the end of the summer window.

De Gea was on the verge of joining the Spanish club earlier this month but the necessary transfer paperwork was not submitted in time.

And the goalkeeper responded on Friday by agreeing to extend his current deal with the Red Devils.

However, Spanish football expert Balague says Madrid are likely to maintain their interest in signing the goalkeeper, despite the way the transfer fell through.

Balague told Sky Sports: “I believe they are still interested in De Gea. I am convinced Real Madrid have not abandoned the idea of signing him.

“I recall Cristiano Ronaldo’s move. He had a longer contract than De Gea had, yet it was all agreed in the December of that year – seven months before he signed for Real Madrid, it was signed.

“The logical step will be for something similar to take place again, at a price that pleases all parties.

“Having said that, the fans should enjoy De Gea. A year is a long time and I have been told he has “renewed enthusiasm” from what has happened.”

De Gea could feature when Manchester United host Liverpool at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
