Rooney and more: Man United players rally behind Shaw

The Manchester United captain sends a message to injured Luke Shaw

Wayne Rooney led the tributes to Luke Shaw on Wednesday morning as the Manchester United left-back begins his long road to recovery from a broken leg.

The England international suffered the horror injury after a heavy tackle from Hector Moreno in United’s 2-1 defeat by PSV Eindhoven in their Champions League group-stage opener.

Shaw is set to undergo an operation upon his return to Manchester after the 20-year-old full-back required 10 minutes of treatment on the pitch before he was stretchered off.

And United captain Rooney posted a message of support for Shaw on his Instagram page:

I feel very sorry for my teammate @lukeshaw23 because of his terrible injury last night. Get well soon and come back stronger, my friend!
