Manchester United assistant manager Ryan Giggs explains why Liverpool clash is welcome after international break
Ryan Giggs says Liverpool are perfect opponents for Manchester United after the international break.
The Red Devils will be looking to get back to winning ways after a shock 2-1 defeat by Swansea City at Liberty Stadium in their most recent Premier League outing.
Liverpool is always a special game and it’s even more special when you win, so we can’t wait
United, who have won three of their opening four games of the season, are currently in fifth place level on points with top-four rivals Arsenal and Liverpool.
And Louis van Gaal’s assistant manager Giggs is eagerly-anticipating the clash against Liverpool at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
Giggs told United’s website: “Liverpool is the perfect game to have to come back to after the international break.
“Old Trafford will be bouncing for a late kick-off. All the players are looking forward to it and I’m sure the fans are too. Liverpool is always a special game and it’s even more special when you win, so we can’t wait.”
The Red Devils have signed six players in the summer transfer window.
Van Gaal started his spending spree with the £25m signing of Memphis Depay from Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven.
United manager also snapped up Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin, Matteo Darmian before he signed Sergio Romero on a free transfer.
The Dutchman concluded his spending with the £36m arrival of Anthony Martial.
