Thierry Henry discusses Anthony Martial’s Man United debut goal
Thierry Henry was very impressed by Anthony Martial's debut goal for Manchester United on Saturday
Thierry Henry spoke in glowing terms of Anthony Martial after the teenager announced himself to Manchester United fans by scoring the Red Devils’ third goal in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Liverpool.
The teenager, who joined the Red Devils from Monaco on transfer deadline day last week in a £36m deal, came off the bench to net a stunning debut goal after Daley Blind and Ander Herrera had put United 2-1 up.
Former Arsenal striker Henry was particularly impressed by the composure shown by the youngster as he slotted past Simon Mignolet to seal victory for the Red Devils.
Henry said on Sky Sports: “I’m happy for him.
“They’re wondering if he spoke English – he proved he did with the ball.
“I love the finish, it’s a great finish for me. He freezes the goalkeeper by looking up before he hits it.
“What a way to announce yourself.”
Manchester United return to Premier League action when they travel to Southampton next Sunday, after their Champions League group stage opener away to PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday night.
Saturday’s win over Liverpool hoisted the Red Devils up to second place in the Premier League table, and five points behind early leaders Manchester City.
