Toby Alderweireld: Tottenham will have a fantastic season

The Tottenham Hotspur defender talks up Spurs's prospect for the season

Toby Alderweireld believes Tottenham Hotspur are capable of having a “fantastic season”.

Spurs laid down a marker for the rest of the campaign on Saturday after an emphatic 4-1 victory over Manchester City at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham hoisted themselves up to fifth place in the table courtesy of their win against Manuel Pellegrini’s side after an initial slow start.

And Alderweireld, who has formed a centre-half partnership with fellow Belgium international Jan Vertonghen, believes Tottenham have the quality to have a fruitful season.

“It’s just a win, we can enjoy it, then we have to work hard again, improve every day and we can have a fantastic season,” Alderweireld told Spurs TV.

“We don’t have to dream too much, we stay with two feet on the ground, work hard and we know we have a young, talented group of players.

“If we work hard and we do everything we have to do then we have the quality to make the difference.”

Alderweireld moved Tottenham in an £11.5m deal from Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window.

Although Tottenham have won three of their opening seven Premier League games this season, Spurs have only lost to Manchester United on the opening day of the season.
