Tottenham 3 Qarabag 1: Player ratings as Son Heung-min shines
Player ratings as Son Heung-min scores twice on his home debut to help Spurs to a Europa League victory
Tottenham Hotspur
Hugo Lloris The French shot-stopper was hardly tested aside from Qarabag’s penalty, with most of the visiting side’s finishing leaving a lot to be desired. 6/10
Kieran Trippier Conceded an early penalty eight minutes into his debut after a poor tackle but wised up in the second half. 4
Toby Alderweireld Covered for a lot of his team-mate’s errors across the match and also had a handful of chances to score from set-pieces. 7
Kevin Wimmer The young Austrian endured a few shaky moments on his debut. 5
Danny Rose Gave the ball away cheaply more than once but was potent going forward, putting balls into the box as well as testing the goalkeeper once or twice. 5
Tom Carroll Played a few ambitious long passes behind the Qarabag back as well as linking play with the front three. 5
Eric Dier Did much of the dirty work in the centre of midfield. Took a knock in the second half and was replaced. 5
Andros Townsend The winger’s whipped delivery from the corner led to Spurs’ equaliser and he was a threat throughout the match. 6
Dele Alli Showed composure to find Son free in the penalty area for Spurs’ second and was a threat throughout the match, even when not in the possession. Booked. 7
Erik Lamela It looked destined to be another frustrating display from the Argentine after a forgettable first half. Instead, the £26m man came out after half-time a different man. Scored in the last 10 minutes and should’ve netted earlier in the half too but was denied by the post. 7
Son Heung-min The South Korean was left unmarked at the near-post for an easy finish for his first goal before linking up well with Alli for his second. Subbed to a standing ovation. 8
Substitutes:
Harry Kane First real effort was from a free-kick which sailed well over the bar. Played a good pass into Lamela for Spurs’ third. 6
Clinton N’Jie Like Kane, his first chance came from a free-kick which came to nothing. 5
