Tottenham star Hugo Lloris talks up Man United signing Anthony Martial
France and Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris heaps praise on Manchester United signing Anthony Martial
Hugo Lloris has talked up the qualities of Manchester United signing Anthony Martial.
The 19-year-old was the big talking point on the final day of the summer transfer window in the Premier League after he completed a shock £36m move to Old Trafford, with reports suggesting the fee could rise to £58m.
He really has huge potential to become a great player. But he must take one step after another
Martial received his first call-up to Didier Deschamps’s France squad over the past week ahead of what would prove to be a dramatic couple of weeks for the United signing.
And Spurs captain Lloris believes the most-expensive teenager in European football has a lot of potential after having had the opportunity to work with Martial over the past few days.
“He is a bit shy, but is well involved in the group. He’s going to make his mark, but it’s never easy,” Lloris is quoted as saying by GOAL.com.
“We talked a lot about him lately. He has to digest all of that, but he has huge potential.
“I’m sure that tomorrow, or in the future he will serve the national team and continue to grow.
“In any case, he really has huge potential to become a great player. But he must take one step after another.”
The 19-year-old scored eight goals in his last nine appearances for Monaco last season, although the teenager netted just 12 times in 46 appearances in all competitions.
The former Lyon and Monaco striker is set to wear the number nine shirt after it was vacated by Colombia flop Radamel Falcao earlier this summer.
Martial has been likened to Arsenal legend Thierry Henry in terms of his playing style, with the France legend also having played for Monaco in the early stages of his career.
