Van Gaal delivers latest Man United injury update ahead of Ipswich clash
Louis van Gaal reveals that Marcos Rojo has been ruled out of Manchester United's clash with Ipswich
Marcos Rojo has been ruled out of Manchester United’s League Cup clash with Ipswich Town on Wednesday night due to a hamstring injury, Louis van Gaal has revealed.
The 25-year-old Argentina international played 69 minutes of United’s 3-2 win at Southampton on Sunday afternoon but will miss the cup clash at Old Trafford due to the injury.
Van Gaal also revealed that fellow defender Paddy McNair is also set to miss the third-round tie due to a “minor” undisclosed issue.
However, there was some good news for the Red Devils after Van Gaal revealed that Phil Jones could make his first appearance of the season in the clash.
Van Gaal told MUTV: “Rojo has a hamstring injury and Paddy McNair has a minor injury.
“I have to admit that because of the injury of three defenders [including Luke Shaw], I shall have Jones on the bench but he is not fit.”
James Wilson and Jesse Lingard will not be called upon to face Ipswich after they both scored for United’s Under-21s against Everton on Monday.
Van Gaal continued: “I don’t need them so they can have a day off and then Thursday they will be fresh and can train.”
United’s 3-2 win over Southampton at St Mary’s on Sunday left Van Gaal’s men second in the table and just two points behind leaders Manchester City.
